HANDMADE MI'KMAQ DRUMS

The drum is considered a sacred object and must always be treated with respect. Like the heart beat, the drum is believed to share the same responsibility, that is, providing life through its beat. This connection of the drum and the heart as the center and the source of life promotes a 'oneness' concept between man and nature. The drum with it's heart beat is said to be the heart beat of all nations, all people and our Mother the Earth.

These drums are handmade and painted by Waterdancer and are made from either deer or moose hide, with a handle made from deer, moose or caribou antler. The type of wood used is spruce.

The designs painted on each drum using acrylics usually depict the petroglyph designs or 'ancient rock art' that are found locally on sacred Mi'kmaq sites left by the early Mi'kmaq people.

Drum sizes range from 12", 14", 16", 17" to 18" diameters and are available plain or painted.
