ROCK ART by Waterdancer
Petroglyphs are ancient rock etchings left by our Mi'kmaq ancestors. There are a number of sites throughout Nova Scotia that you can find petroglyphs. Because of environmental and human impact these images 'etched' in softer rock are becoming more and more hard to see with the untrained eye. These were the teachings of the early Mi'kmaq ancestors, our history books. In order to keep the tradition alive of how our Mi'kmaq ancestors lived Waterdancer has begun to hand make replicas and images based on the original petroglyphs. Many of his designs are inspired by these ancient rock etchings and the techniques used to create them.
